Large Extension And Patio in Wheathampstead

This project in Wheathampstead began with a full site clearance, including the removal of an outdated and leaking 1990s conservatory, making way for a high-quality rear extension designed to transform the ground floor living space. Once the site was prepared, we installed large structural steel beams to form the framework of the extension and define its striking architectural shape.

A key feature is the installation of joined rooflights, running across the full width of the extension at the base of the existing second storey. These rooflights flood both the new extension and the existing building with natural daylight, significantly enhancing the sense of space and creating a bright, open environment throughout the ground floor.

Internally, the existing ground floor was completely renovated to complement the new extension. The tiled flooring was continued throughout to maintain visual flow, and a bespoke fitted kitchen was installed, featuring a picture-frame window overlooking the garden.

The structural design incorporates large steel beams spanning beyond the glazed elevations, continuing down into steel columns set on concrete footings. This engineering solution allowed for a continuous glass frontage and glazed corner detail, maximising uninterrupted views of the garden while dramatically increasing natural light. The result is a seamless connection between the indoor living space and the outdoor area, ideal for modern family living.

Externally, we completed a bespoke patio installation, using the same tiles as the internal flooring to create a smooth, level transition with no step between inside and out. The patio extends five metres from the rear of the property and includes integrated lighting within the paving, along with ambient lighting set into the garden planters, making the space just as inviting in the evening as it is during the day.

Internally, the existing ground floor was completely renovated to complement the new extension. The tiled flooring was continued throughout to maintain visual flow, and a bespoke fitted kitchen was installed, featuring a picture-frame window overlooking the garden. To complete the transformation, we implemented a striking three-storey staircase with glass balustrade handrails, adding a contemporary architectural feature while allowing light to travel freely through the home.

Overall, this project has completely transformed the ground floor, creating a light-filled, open-plan living space that seamlessly connects the house and garden. The result is a modern, functional layout perfectly suited to contemporary family living and entertaining.
